Lynton House
One of seven EnerPHit Passivhous Trust certified houses in London. (As of November 2024.)
Arboreal Architecture upgraded the existing building and reclaimed its original character, affected by an overall poor condition of the project. We renovated the interior layout and converted the loft into an attractive space to answer the spatial needs and desires of the homeowner. Furthermore we created a holistic retrofit of the building fabric to achieve low energy consumption meeting the Passivhaus standards for retrofit and becoming one of the first EnerPHit certified houses in London! The project resulted in a 90% reduction in space heating demand whilst maintaining both the historic character of the building and a “moisture robust” construction.
In order to preserve the historic character of the area the ‘gravel dash’ render on the front facade was removed and the facade re-rendered with a coloured mineral render. The non-original and non-matching single glazed windows in the front elevation were replaced by timber triple glazed sliding sash windows with matching putty details and matching frame details to the original windows and adopted the proportions and alignment of openings in adjacent properties. The proposed timber framed sliding sash replacement windows were tailor made to achieve the detail required for this specific building and the Kilburn Conservation Area which is designated as an “area of special architectural or historic interest”.
