AA students explore completed Haw Lane Passivhaus in the Chilterns

11.02.26

Tom's 4th Year students from the Architectural Association (AA) recently visited the newly completed Haw Lane Passivhaus to see the finished project up close and hear about its journey from concept to construction.

Set within the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), in a built-up part of the Green Belt, the four-bedroom home has been carefully designed to sit comfortably within its surroundings. The scheme follows the neighbourhood plan and the Chilterns Buildings Design Guide, with a focus on preserving and enhancing the character of the local area.

The house replaces a particularly small existing dwelling and now provides a spacious, energy-efficient home tailored to the needs of a growing family. Generous spacing to the side boundaries helps the new building settle naturally into the plot.

At the front, much of the original driveway has been retained, alongside a new hardstanding area. The rest of the garden has been planted with native, wildlife-friendly species. To the rear, the garden remains largely as lawn and orchard, complemented by a small side patio for outdoor living.

The project was delivered in collaboration with Wilkinson Passiv Homes.
