Monstera deliciosa

The leaves of the Monstera deliciosa plant develop holes as they grow, first within the leaf, then breaking out to the margins. This "fenestration" seems to be designed to take account of the young leaves growing below by allowing through light and rainwater. Perhaps also, these holes provide resilience for the large leaves to tropical storms by reducing their surface area.
