32 ways
in which buildings
should be more arboreal

"32 ways in which buildings should be more arboreal" is a research project that aims to identify the ways in which buildings could learn from trees and other natural systems. It was first developed as an exhibition for the "25nominate25" award during the 2010 London Festival of Architecture. It is an ongoing project and ideas from many of the ways inform our design work. We welcome engineers, botanists, gardeners, scientists and other specialists to collaborate with us on the development of each way.

Through developing these ideas we aim to create an architecture that is diverse, elegant, responsive and unexpected; in much the same way that trees have responded to the myriad environmental conditions on earth.
